Bergen Youth Orchestras

Symphony Guest Conductor – Kyunghun Kim

Kyunghun Kim was appointed Artistic Director of the Ridgewood Symphony in 2021. He is also the Music Director of The Doctors Orchestral Society of New York, the Principal Associate Conductor of Ensemble 212, the Orchestra Director of the Music and Medicine Orchestra and Music Director of Ensemble Con Cuore. He also serves on the music faculty of Lehman College in New York.

Mr. Kim frequently appears as a guest conductor with major South Korean orchestras such as the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, the SungNam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Korean Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Kim made his debut with the WE Philharmonic Orchestra  in the summer of 2021 at the renowned Lotte Concert Hall. c Orchestra, and Queens Symphony Orchestra.Mr. Kim has held positions as Resident Conductor for The Chelsea Symphony Orchestra, and Assistant Conductor for both The Greenwich Village Orchestra and The New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble. Additionally, he has conducted The Vidin Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Philharmoni

Before graduating from The Juilliard School in 2011 with a Masters in Orchestral Conducting, Mr. Kim was an assistant conductor of AXIOM, a contemporary music ensemble at the Juilliard School and was a conductor of the school’s Music Advancement Program (MAP) orchestra during 2009-2011. He earned an Artist Diploma in Conducting in 2007 from The Curtis Institute of Music, under the auspices of Otto-Werner Mueller.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Mr. Kim began studying piano, violin, and composition at the age of five. While continuing his study at The Boston Conservatory, where he holds a B.M. in viola performance. He has been invited to participate in numerous prestigious music festivals, including the Wiener Meisterkurse, The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and The Pierre Monteux School. In February of 2012, Mr. Kim was chosen as a participant in a Beethoven masterclass with Kurt Masur at the Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Kim has participated in master classes with Michael Tilson Thomas, Alan Gilbert, John Keenan, and Harold Farberman and also was a semi-finalist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Sir Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in 2013. Mr. Kim currently lives in Bergen County, New Jersey with his wife and young son.

 

Philharmonia Conductor – Joseph Dubbiosi

Joseph began his musical career when he was only five years old. Both of his parents, Dr. Stelio Dubbiosi and Helena Dubbiosi, are musicians who encouraged his musical studies by starting him on the violin with Louise Berhend from the Julliard School of Music. Later, Joseph was accepted into the Julliard Pre-College Division where his abilities on the violin and his formal music education thrived. During his High School years, Joseph was a member of the New Jersey Regional Orchestra, All-State Chorus, All-State Orchestra and the All-Eastern Orchestra. He later studied with Jacques Rubinstein, from the New York City Opera Orchestra. Joseph is a graduate of New Jersey City University, receiving his Bachelors/Masters degrees and supervisory certificate in education. Joseph Also studied Conducting from Mr. Nicholas Ceratto, who performed and conducted several Broadway shows including “On The 20th Century, Sweeny Todd and Cats”.  Joseph is currently the district string specialist of the Bergenfield Public School system in Bergenfield, NJ where he developed a successful string and orchestral program at the middle school level. Since 2009 Joseph has been the Director of Orchestras at Bergenfield High School. He has also been a conductor of the Bergen Youth Orchestra for more than 12 years.

Mr. Dubbiosi is an adjunct professor at New Jersey City University where he teaches String Methods courses to music majors. He also enjoys performing as a violinist and conductor for the Bergen Youth Philharmonia Strings. His performances extend throughout the Metropolitan area including playing violin, electric violin and bass for original artists in New York and New Jersey.
